Wait, you’re telling me you’re a rap fan but you’ve never heard of Travis Scott? That’s definitely a lie. No one has had a popularity explosion the way Travis Scott has. An icon in the rap game with albums selling like hotcakes. No rager is complete without playing hits such as ‘Sicko Mode’ and ‘Goosebumps’ on full blast. With over a billion streams on Spotify, we’re no strangers to his strong influence on music, but that's not it.
Travis Scott AKA Cactus Jack has been making waves in the streetwear and sneaker industry with his unique sense of style and creative vision.
His widely popular collaborations with Nike, McDonald's, Fragment, Hot Wheels, Fortnite and many more are enough to crown him as the ‘King of Brand Collaborations.
His most popular and commercially successful collaboration is with Nike, in the Jordan brand. Travis Scott partnered with the brand and released his first silhouette back in 2018. The rapper released not only sneakers but also clothing articles such as hoodies, shorts, t-shirts and cargo pants all stylized by Cactus Jack branding.
The Jordan 4 collab launch was followed by Jordan 33’s before his most notable sneaker launch that shook up the sneaker world.
Travis Scott x Nike Jordan 1 is one for the history books. A Grail pair for every sneakerhead. From the unique colourways to the reverse swoosh design these are some of the most identifiable pairs of sneakers to ever be launched. The Travis Scott x Fragment shoe is a collaboration between three connoisseurs of culture; Jordan Brand, Travis Scott and Hiroshi Fujiwara's Fragment Design. This Jordan 1 pair is one of the rarest collaborations in sneaker history.
Travis has been spotted teasing a variety of sneakers and colourways on his Instagram. Air Jordan 4 ‘Friends and Family Purple’ and Nike Air Force 1 Low ‘Bespoke’’ are a few such pairs. Are they specific friends and family releases? Or Are they in the pipeline and we will see them hitting the shelves for a general release soon? These are questions no one knows the answers to. The SB Dunk Low and Air Jordan 6s were not far behind in catching the hype. Every sneaker graced by Cactus Jack is now a deadstock pair. Unfortunately, the only way to get your hands on these grails is through resellers or using your own sneaker bots.
The tragic events at Astroworld in November 2021 struck a severe blow to La flame’s reputation. There were rumours of Nike cutting all ties with the rapper and they publicly announced a pause on their collaboration with the rapper. This is not it for Nike and Travis Scott, well they’re just getting started. Post this hiatus, the releases of Travis Scott’s product collaborations with Nike have resumed as planned. This collaboration is here to stay and disruption is what they know. With Travis Scott’s cult-like following and Nike’s well-oiled product and distribution network, this train is not slowing down. If you got lucky and own a pair of these rare sneakers, let me know in the comment section below.
